How to Prepare Your iPhone Before Selling It
Preparing an iPhone for sale is mostly about two things: protecting your information and making the next owner’s setup straightforward. Work through the checklist before you hand over or ship your device.
Back up what you want to keep
Save photos, contacts, messages, authenticator access, and any files you still need. Use your preferred secure backup method and confirm that the backup completed before moving on.
Sign out of your accounts
Sign out of your Apple Account and remove the device from services that may keep it associated with you. This helps prevent an activation lock from blocking the next owner.
If you use a cellular plan or eSIM, follow your carrier’s instructions for moving or removing the plan before the phone leaves your possession.
Complete a factory reset
After your backup is confirmed and your accounts are removed, use the iPhone’s erase option to clear personal content and settings. Do not rely on manually deleting photos or messages one at a time.
Record the device condition
